Abstinence

Abstinence is abstaining from all that is harmful, and being moderate in that which is good. Abstinence describes a lifestyle that increases the quality of life: for example, overeating leads to stomach upset and/or obesity. Under-eating leads to malnutrition or starvation. Overwork leads to exhaustion or injury. Underwork leads to laziness and muscle weakness. Abstinence is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, so we can only be temperate as we ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit and let Him rule in our hearts and minds. Galatians 5:22, 23; Colossians 3:15.
